I’ve been in the insurance industry for almost seven years now and I can tell you that no insurance agent likes losing a client.  Clients are what put food on our tables and you work really hard to get them.  There’s a lot of effort that goes into acquiring a new client for your insurance agency.  Whether it’s from networking, cross selling your current clients, working at a local community event of benefit fair, or one of the other dozen ways to generate leads, it’s a lot of work.  So, when you help a new family with their insurance you hope that they stay with you forever.

In a perfect world that’s what would happen.  After several years in the business I know that’s not how it works though.  As a consumer, you have a responsibility for yourself and your family to make sure that you’re getting the best coverage and price available.  I came from the captive insurance world which means I could only write for one insurance carrier.  As an independent agent, I’m able to quote multiple carriers at once for my clients and find them the best deal out there which I love.

Another advantage I have as an independent agent is that I’m able to move my clients from one carrier to another if rates do get too high.  I’ve been placing a lot of clients with Grange Insurance lately.  They’re one of my most competitive companies but if they were to take a lot of rate movement I have the ability to move my clients to SafeCo, State Auto, Travelers, or one of my other great insurance companies that I represent.

So in closing I encourage you to shop your rates every few years but the best way to do the shopping is to let me do it for you by searching the market for you and saving you lots of time and effort.
